What is the Live Beyond You Service Challenge?
The Live Beyond You Service Challenge is a humanitarian initiative that invites everyday people to step outside their comfort zones and make a tangible difference in their local communities. It is the bridge between good intentions and good actions — a structured, supported journey toward becoming an active agent of change, right where you are.
Where did the Service Challenge come from?
The Challenge was born in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in Haiti — the birthplace of Watson Tunez, our founder. Moved by the suffering of his homeland, Watson rallied friends and family, boarded a plane, and returned to help rebuild. In that space between rubble and restoration, he discovered that music — and community — could serve as powerful vehicles for healing. The Service Challenge grew directly from that experience.
Who created the Live Beyond You Service Challenge?
The Challenge was founded by Watson Tunez, a Haitian-American recording artist and the pioneer of social impact music. Watson was rescued by a missionary as a child and adopted by an American family in Washington State. His personal story of resilience, rescue, and purpose is the foundation upon which the entire movement was built.
What is "social impact music"?
Social impact music is a model developed by Watson Tunez that aligns music with humanitarian values while systematically raising funds for social causes. It is music with intention — not simply created to entertain, but to move people toward compassion, community, and action.
What is the goal of the Service Challenge?
The goal is simple but profound: to move people from good intentions to good actions. The Challenge invites participants — called Initiators — to identify a local charity or cause they are passionate about and actively work to bring healing to a hurt in their community. It transforms passive listeners into purposeful leaders.
Is the Service Challenge a one-time event or an ongoing initiative?
The Service Challenge is an ongoing lifestyle invitation. It is not a single event. It is a commitment to letting service become a way of life — one act at a time, building momentum with each step forward.
PARTICIPATION & ELIGIBILITY
Who can participate in the Service Challenge?
Anyone. There are no prerequisites, no required skills, no minimum budget, and no need for special connections. If you have a heart for your community and a willingness to begin, you are already qualified.
Do I need prior experience in charity work or community organizing?
Not at all. The Service Challenge was designed with the everyday person in mind. You do not need to know how nonprofit organizations operate, how to run a fundraiser, or how to lead a team. You simply need to start small and remain consistent.
Do I have to travel internationally to participate?
No. While Watson's own journey took him thousands of miles back to Haiti, the spirit of the challenge begins right in your own neighborhood. Your community is your mission field. Your local cause is your starting point.
Can I participate as an individual, or do I need a team?
You can begin as an individual, but the Challenge encourages you to gather a small group of friends around a shared cause. Community is at the heart of this movement. Together, impact multiplies.
Is there an age requirement to join?
No age requirement is specified. The movement welcomes anyone who feels called to serve, from students to seasoned professionals, from young artists to corporate leaders.
Can organizations, churches, or corporations participate?

What is the Live Beyond You Community?
The Live Beyond You Community is the community arm of the Beyond Me humanitarian movement. It is a subscription-based platform where digital engagement becomes real-world impact. Members — called Initiators — receive consistent encouragement, support, and resources as they pursue their humanitarian journey.
What does a community membership include?
Membership connects you to a network of like-minded Initiators who share your passion for service. It provides a space of constant encouragement and upliftment as you navigate your challenge. Specific membership details and benefits are available upon sign-up.
What is an "Initiator"?
An Initiator is someone who has accepted the Live Beyond You Challenge — a person who moves beyond passive observation and takes active steps to serve their community. Initiators are the heartbeat of this movement.
How is the Live Beyond You Community different from simply donating to a charity?
Donating to a charity is a wonderful act of generosity. But the Live Beyond You Community goes further. It invites you into an ongoing lifestyle of service, equips you with support and encouragement, and challenges you to help a cause you personally care about earn funding — while growing alongside a community that celebrates and sustains your efforts.
Is the community available online?
Yes. The Live Beyond You Community is a digital-first experience that translates into real-world action. The platform is designed to connect Initiators virtually while inspiring tangible impact locally.
THE HUMANITARIAN CAUSE
What causes does the Service Challenge support?
The Service Challenge is intentionally broad in its mission. While the movement was born out of the crisis in Haiti, it empowers participants to identify and champion causes that are close to their own hearts — local charities, community needs, and social issues that exist right in their own neighborhoods.
Does the challenge only focus on Haiti?
No. Haiti was the origin of Watson's story, but the movement is global in its vision and local in its practice. Every community has a wound that needs healing. The Service Challenge simply asks: what is yours?
How does the challenge decide which causes receive funding?
The humanitarian grant pool, overseen by the board of directors of Beyond Me Initiative, serves as the funding arm for the Service Challenge. As Initiators rally support for local causes, the grant pool exists to direct resources toward meaningful, vetted community needs.

Beyond Me Initiative is the nonprofit arm of the Beyond Me humanitarian movement. It is governed by a board of directors who oversee a humanitarian grant pool — the financial engine that funds the Service Challenge and supports the formation of corporate sponsorships.
What is Beyond Me Entertainment?
Beyond Me Entertainment is the record label arm of the movement. It was formed to promote social impact music and sign artists whose work carries humanitarian values at its core. It exists to amplify the mission through music and media.

MUSIC, MERCHANDISE & FUNDING
How does Watson's music support the movement?
As audiences purchase Watson's music, merchandise, and attend live experiences, the proceeds flow back into the movement. Every transaction is an act of participation. Every album purchased is a contribution to the humanitarian grant pool and the broader mission.
What was the album created at Anderson University for?
While partnering with Anderson University in Indiana, Watson rallied a group of young artists to record a benefit album specifically designed to address and alleviate suffering in Haiti. It was one of the earliest, most tangible expressions of social impact music in action. The album Watson and the crew created was called "Beyond Me: Haiti". They created a 6 song EP and 12 track compilation album by the same title to support earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. You can listen to all of our music through the LBY Community Subscription.
Can buying music or merchandise actually make a difference?
Absolutely. The Beyond Me model was designed so that cultural engagement — listening, watching, attending, purchasing — becomes a direct pathway to humanitarian funding. Your participation in the music fuels the mission.

What are my first steps once I join?
Begin by identifying a local cause or charity that resonates with your heart. We recommend visiting CharityNavigator.org if you are having a hard time finding a local charity to serve. Gather a small circle of friends around that shared passion. And then simply start — with one small, intentional act of service. We have resources on this site to help you connect with a charity and a starter guide to give you ideas on how to participate in the challenge. Feel free to download these resources for free. You can also join LBY Community (completely optional) and the community will guide and encourage you from there. We're all in this to make a difference and help alleviate human suffering.
What if I feel overwhelmed or don't know where to begin?
That feeling is more common than you might think. The Live Beyond You Community exists precisely for this reason — to ensure that no Initiator walks their journey alone. You will find encouragement, resources, and fellow Initiators who have stood exactly where you stand.
How much time does the challenge require?
There is no rigid time commitment. The Service Challenge is a lifestyle, not a schedule. You are invited to engage at the pace that works for your life, while steadily growing in your capacity and courage to serve.
Does it cost money to participate?
Specific subscription details for the Live Beyond You Community are available at sign-up. However, the ethos of the challenge is clear: you do not need a large budget to make a meaningful difference. Small acts, done consistently and with great love, are the foundation of this movement.

What is the philosophy behind "living beyond yourself"?

Do I have to be a certain faith to participate?

What does Mother Teresa's quote mean to this movement?
